Emirates Society of Haematology

In November of 2005, the haematologists of Abu Dhabi decided to meet regularly for professional and social interaction as the “Abu Dhabi Haematology Group”, which was hosted in different centres. The meetings were so successful that in 2006, haematologists from the other Emirates were invited to attend.

The group was renamed “The Emirates Haematology Group” and meetings were also held in other Emirates. In July of 2009, this group was recognized by the Emirates Medical Association as the Haematology Section of the EMA, and became knownas “The Emirates Society of Haematology”. There are now approximately 90 members and associate members from all fields of Haematology.

The Society works to foster the specialty of Haematology in the UAE and form links with colleagues in the UAE, countries, and the international Haematology community. The attention is focused on improvement in quality of care for patients suffering from conditions prevalent throughout UAE.

Regular meetings of the society are held in different locations to provide a regular forum for professional interchange amongst all medically qualified practitioners who are trainees or specialists in Haematology. The Society strives to create and develop continuing medical education opportunities for the members, determine their training needs and introduce structured postgraduate education in the field of Haematology.

The society aims to ensure higher quality of care by helping to usher in a new generation of uniform protocols of investigation and care, sharing expertise between institutions and participation in national and international quality improvement exercises. We are proud to have achieved , over a short period, a large number of educational activities, have initiated the haemophilia support group and have initiated annual congresses by holding the first Emirates Haematology Conference in March 2011.

2nd Emirates Haematology Conference 2012

The Second Emirates Haematology Conference sought to build on the success of its predecessor in order to establish place as the premier regional educational conference in the field of Haematology. The event attracted an even greater number of delegates than the first time around due in large part to the caliber of international experts that were invited to speak at the conference. The scientific program, for the first time, featured a Haematology Nurse Workshop that proved to be very successful.

It was held from 8-10 March 2012 at the newly refurbished Intercontinental Hotel in Abu Dhabi. As well as an increase in attendance, this conference featured an even larger exhibition than its counterpart thus solidifying ties with industry partners and providing attendees with a comprehensive display of the most up to date products on the market at the time.
